“I think it’s important that people know that fashion is for everybody,” said Whoopi Goldberg ahead of Thom Browne’s New York Fashion Week runway show on Tuesday, which marked the New York designer’s—and newly anointed chairman of the CFDA’s—latest return to the American fashion calendar.
And in the front row, there was quite a bit of fashion for everybody. Before the Little Prince-themed fashion fantasia—remember the one about the young boy who explores the galaxy and observes its planets with the sort of wonder that adults have outgrown?—got underway at The Shed, representatives from the brand’s signature potpourri of VIP ambassadors, including Erykah Badu, Queen Latifah, Pusha T, Lil Nas X, Johnny Suh, David Harbour, Yahya Abdul-Mateen, and Penn Badgley showed off their own personalized variations on (or hallucinations of) Browne’s trademark gray suiting. The collection, presented in four acts of increasingly elaborate layers of American tailoring, was a grand celebration of Browne’s enchanting vision. But as is typically the case at Thom Browne shows, the audience’s tricolor-tipped fits were just as exciting.
As guests found their seats, dog-shaped Hector bags in tow, we chatted them up about their looks, what they love about Thom Browne, and how their Valentine’s Day was going so far. Check out the scene below.
